What did MCCC say on the wicket of Angkrish Raghuvanshi?
New Delhi. Marylebone Cricket Club has defended the decision to give Angkrish Raghuvanshi out for ‘obstructing the field’ in the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants on April 26. There was a lot of debate on this decision of the umpires. Many experts said that the umpire had given this wrong out. Angkrish himself and KKR head coach Abhishek Nair were also unhappy with the umpire’s decision and were seen arguing on the field. However, now MCC has ended this debate and declared the umpire’s decision correct.
Citing the rules, MCC clarified its position on this controversial decision. According to Marylebone Cricket Club, if a batsman deliberately changes his direction while running, especially running over the pitch, then he is considered to be obstructing the fielding. MCC said that Raghuvanshi was initially on the ‘off side’ of the wicket, but as soon as the fielder bowled the ball, he came to the middle of the pitch and then turned towards the ‘leg side’. In this way he came between the ball and the wicket. According to the rules, it is not necessary whether the batsman is able to reach the crease or not. What is important is that he deliberately changed his path, which is against the rules. MCC said in the statement, ‘If Raghuvanshi had kept running away from the pitch, the ball would not have hit him. His deliberate crossing of the pitch was the reason for his dismissal.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi was unhappy
When Angkrish Raghuvanshi was given out, his anger was at its peak. He threw his bat on the ground, screamed and then went into the dugout and threw his helmet. He became only the fourth player in the 19-year history of IPL to be out due to ‘obstructing the field’. Neither Raghuvanshi nor the KKR camp was happy with this decision. Players and coaches were surprised to see this decision. While leaving the field, Raghuvanshi had a heated argument with the umpire. KKR head coach Abhishek Nair was also seen talking to the fourth umpire about this near the boundary.
