Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals at their home.
Rajasthan scored 225 on the basis of captain Riyan Parag’s 90 runs.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals scored 225 runs for 6 wickets thanks to the half-century of captain Ryan Parag (90 runs) and finally the brilliant innings of Donovan Ferreira (47 not out in 14 balls). Parag’s 50-ball innings studded with eight fours and five sixes allayed many concerns around him as he struggled to score runs this season. If his on-field troubles were not enough, he was caught on camera ‘vaping’ in the dugout, due to which the BCCI fined him 25 percent of his match fee.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi-Yashaswi Jaiswal out cheaply
Therefore, he had a lot to prove and this right-handed batsman did so in spectacular style and scored his first fifty in IPL 2026. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Rajasthan Royals lost the wickets of both their openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal early. Due to this, there was a lot of pressure on Parag, he and Dhruv Jurel (42 runs) together laid the foundation of this big score by making a partnership of 102 runs in 59 balls for the third wicket. After this, Ferreira, who was in excellent form, hit two fours and six sixes in 14 balls and took the team to a challenging score.
Starc took 3 wickets for 40 runs
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, playing the first match of the season for Delhi Capitals, took three wickets for 40 runs. Suryavanshi was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson on a yorker ball while Jaiswal also gave a return catch to Starc. The host team had lost two wickets for 12 runs in two overs. Batsman Parag, who was struggling with poor form, was clearly nervous against Starc. But Parag thrashed Jamieson in the sixth over and gained confidence by hitting sixes, fours and sixes continuously. With this, Rajasthan Royals ended the power play at 56 runs for two wickets.
Confidence was clearly visible in Parag’s batting also.
After getting into the rhythm, Parag’s confidence was also clearly visible in his batting. He hit a ‘tennis style’ forehand six over the covers against left arm fast bowler T Natarajan. In this way, Parag completed his half-century in 32 balls and along with Jurel made a century partnership for the third wicket. But Jurel pulled Akshar Patel’s ball and handed it straight into the hands of Tristan Stubbs standing in the deep. Despite his departure, Parag did not stop, he along with Ravindra Jadeja (20) took the innings forward.
Parag-Jadeja made a partnership of 53 runs
Although the game slowed down for some time, Parag increased the run pace by hitting three consecutive boundaries off Jamieson’s balls, which also included a brilliant uppercut. He and Parag added 53 runs for the fourth wicket before Jadeja fell victim to Starc’s ball. Australian fast bowler Starc also ended Parag’s innings, who while trying to play over the covers, gave the ball directly into Akshar’s hands. Ferreira again made a useful contribution in which he hit a four and a six on Starc’s balls consecutively.
