New Delhi. When the name of a legend is associated with the world of cricket, the expectations automatically start touching the sky and when it comes to the son of a great player like Rahul Dravid, then every eye is fixed on him. On one such occasion, Anvay Dravid not only justified the name with his performance, but also proved that he is moving fast on the path of creating his own identity.
In the second match of the three-match Youth ODI series played on Monday, India Under-19 team made a strong score of 285 runs against Sri Lanka Under-19. The foundation of this score was laid by Anvay Dravid, who batted brilliantly and scored 87 runs in 67 balls. His innings included nine fours and one six, which shows his aggressive mentality.
Junior Dravid’s ruckus in Hammantota
India had a very bad start in the second ODI of the series. The team had lost four wickets for just 81 runs and it seemed that the team might disintegrate under pressure but from here Anvay Dravid and Arjun Rajput took the responsibility. Both the batsmen made a brilliant partnership of 145 runs for the fifth wicket and put the team in a strong position. Confidence was clearly visible in Anvay’s batting. He maintained pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers and did not hesitate to play aggressive shots when given the opportunity. Especially against Chamika Heenathigala, he made his intentions clear by hitting sixes and fours on consecutive balls. Completing his half-century in just 47 balls was the special achievement of his innings. Anvay Dravid was heading towards a century, but left arm fast bowler Gimhan Mendis ended his innings. Mendis was Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler in this match, taking five wickets for 41 runs. As soon as Anvay was out, the Indian innings faltered a bit and the team was all out for 285 runs.
Trouble shooting partnership with Rajput
On the other hand, Arjun Rajput also batted restrainedly and scored 76 runs in 81 balls. The partnership between the two took India beyond 200 and laid the foundation of a big score. Although Rajput was run out due to a brilliant throw, by then he had done his job. Despite this, this score can be considered competitive, especially considering the situation when the team suffered initial setbacks. With this performance, India Under-19 team has also maintained a 1-0 lead in the series. In the earlier match, India had won by four wickets after chasing 321 runs. This performance of Anvay Dravid is not just an innings, but an indication that Indian cricket can get another strong batsman. Now it will be interesting to see how he maintains this rhythm in the coming matches.
