Chennai lost the match it had won against SRH, whom did captain Ruturaj Gaikwad hold responsible?

CSK Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Statement: Last Saturday (April 18) evening, a match was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Hyderabad won the match by 10 runs and won its third win in the season. On the other hand, Chennai registered a four-point defeat. There came a time in the match when the Chennai team present on the field for the run chase came close to victory, but still the team had to face defeat in the end. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also admitted that the team lost after coming close to victory.

What did Ruturaj Gaikwad say?

Ruturaj Gaikwad said in the post-match presentation, “(Was there a desire to chase 195 runs?) Absolutely. I think in terms of bowling in the powerplay, we were expecting 220 or 230 runs, but to get 30 runs short was a brilliant bowling effort and on a ground like this, on a pitch like this, I would have accepted a target of less than 200 any day.”

Gaikwad further said, “Only 80 runs were required in 10 overs and from there I thought of making some partnerships and then it was to be decided that the opposition team should not stay in the match and also come under pressure. But after that a few overs changed the momentum. After 10 overs, we scored only 4 runs in the next 2 overs. I think this would have helped them a lot. We knew that it would be difficult to score 12 or 13 runs in the last overs. He bowled well in the end.

What went good in the last few matches?

Gaikwad said, “I think the bowling unit has been doing a good job for the last three consecutive matches. Today also we did well after the powerplay. Even in the powerplay, I thought Abhishek batted brilliantly. He thrashed the bowlers fiercely. We did not bowl a single loose ball, just played excellent cricket. Hats off to him for that. But even after that, when we got the rhythm, I think we took full advantage of it and everyone contributed… Jamie (Overton), Gurjapaneet (Singh), Noor (Ahmed) and finally Anshul (Kamboj) also performed brilliantly.”
