Leaving Harmanpreet Kaur behind, she achieved an achievement which no one before her had been able to achieve in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Chamari, who played an unbeaten inning of 106 runs, helped Sri Lanka win by 9 wickets and kept their semi-final hopes alive.

New Delhi. In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Sri Lanka has kept its hopes of the semi-finals alive by defeating Ireland by 9 wickets in its fourth match. With the win in this Group B match, the Sri Lankan team is in fourth place with four points from four matches. Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Atapattu was the architect of the victory over Ireland, who scored an unbeaten century. Chasing the target, Atapattu completed his century in 58 balls and scored 106 runs in 61 balls. His innings included 17 fours and two sixes. With this innings Atapattu also created history. This is the first century by any batsman in the Women’s T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka.
Became the first cricketer to do so
Actually, Chamari Atapattu has become the first cricketer to score a century while chasing runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Along with this, he also made the record of the biggest innings in run chase. Earlier, the record for the biggest innings while chasing runs in the history of the tournament was in the name of West Indies’ Shamayne Campbell, who had scored 90 runs in the current edition itself.
Left Harmanpreet behind
Chamari Atapattu has become the batsman with the fourth highest innings score in the Women’s T20 World Cup. He left behind Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Danny Watt Hodge. Harman had played an inning of 103 runs in 2018, while Danny had scored an unbeaten 105 runs in the current tournament itself. After Danny, Chamari is the second batsman to score a century in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The record for the biggest innings in the history of this tournament is in the name of Australia’s Meg Lanning, who scored 126 runs in 2014.
Fourth century in T20 International
This is Chamari Atapattu’s fourth century in T20 International. Before this, she has become the second batsman to score the most centuries in Women’s T20 International. At number one is Esha Oja of UAE, who has touched the three-digit figure 5 times. Atapattu is only the eighth batsman to score a century in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
