Pakistan’s all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz seems to be in trouble. The news of Nawaz failing the drug test has come at a time when Nawaz was about to make an official announcement of signing for England’s cricket club Surrey. Nawaz was going to play in England’s league T20 Blast. Actually, his sample was taken for testing during the T20 World Cup 2026, in which traces of banned substances were found.
Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that ICC has informed it about the case related to Mohammad Nawaz and PCB has also started action. Will Nawaz’s career end?
Whenever the International Cricket Council (ICC) finds a cricketer guilty of consuming banned drugs, it takes action under the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). If Mohammad Nawaz had indeed consumed banned drugs during the T20 World Cup 2026 and he is found guilty of doping, then Nawaz may have to face a lifetime ban from cricket.
It is said that if found guilty for the first time, a ban of 2 years is usually imposed. All aspects are taken into consideration in the investigation. The player had not consumed drugs by mistake. And if a player is repeatedly found guilty of doping, he can be banned for life.
For example, Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw accidentally consumed banned drugs during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament in 2019. Still he had to face a ban of 8 months.
