CA Exam Pattern 2026: Big news has come for lakhs of students preparing for Chartered Accountancy across the country. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) CA Final Exam Pattern (CA Exam Pattern 2026) In a major change, it has now been decided to organize it twice a year instead of thrice. This new system will be implemented from the session 2026, due to which the examination opportunities for students will be reduced. In such a situation, let us now tell you why students preparing for CA will be able to give only two attempts in a year.
Now exams will be held only twice a year
Till now CA final exam was held in January, May and September. That is, students used to get three chances in a year, but after the new decision, now the examination will be conducted only in May and November. ICAI says that this decision has been taken on the basis of feedback received from students and other stakeholders. This change will affect only the CA final exam. At present no changes have been announced regarding Foundation and Intermediate examinations. Apart from this, no changes have been made in the syllabus, passing marks, articleship or course structure.
Change in date of inter exam also
Meanwhile, ICAI has revised the date of CA Intermediate exam. The examination to be held on May 3, 2026 will be held on May 5 between 2 pm to 5 pm. Group 1 exams will be held on 5th, 7th and 9th May, while Group 2 exams will be held on 11th, 13th and 15th.

What effect will two attempts have on students?
Earlier, students used to get three chances in a year, due to which if they failed then they could get the next attempt soon. But now this number has reduced to two, in such a situation both competition and pressure may increase. However, experts believe that due to less attempts, students will get more time for better preparation. Apart from this, due to reduction in the number of exams, the process of paper setting, exam conduct, copy checking and releasing the result will become easier for ICAI. This will help in making the entire examination system more systematic and effective.
Placement and other initiatives
ICAI has also recently launched the 64th Campus Placement Program for newly qualified candidates. Interviews are being conducted in many big cities of the country like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Jaipur. Besides, a standardized orientation program has also been started for the candidates. In which information like career guidance and interview preparation is being given.
