BSNL: In the financial year 2026, government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made a big upset and has left behind private companies Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. According to the report of French network testing company nPerf, BSNL secured the first position in the fixed-line internet segment.

Big success achieved through continuous improvement

According to the report, BSNL has achieved the top position with 89,174 nPoints. The special thing is that the company was in second place last year but due to five consecutive years of improvement, this time it became number-1. Airtel got 74,975 nPoints and Jio got 73,957 nPoints, making them second and third respectively.

What are nPoints?

nPoints is a score that reflects the actual performance of the Internet. In this, a total score is prepared by combining many factors like download speed, upload speed, latency (response time), browsing and streaming.

BSNL’s performance did wonders

BSNL performed brilliantly this year. Its download speed increased by 21% year-on-year to 78.5 Mbps. Even in terms of upload speed, BSNL left its competitors behind and achieved the figure of 75.26 Mbps. Apart from this, the company also remained the best in latency, web browsing and YouTube streaming experience.

How was the situation of Airtel and Jio?

Airtel also improved its position and climbed one place compared to last year. Its download speed increased by 10% to 62.4 Mbps but the upload speed remained 38.71 Mbps which is less than BSNL.

On the other hand, Jio achieved the highest download speed at 79.6 Mbps which shows an increase of 33%. However, its upload speed was 33.46 Mbps and latency was also found to be the highest due to which its overall performance has been slightly affected.

Who dominates in FTTH speed?

Talking about fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) speed, Airtel was at the forefront with its download speed of 241.72 Mbps. This was followed by Jio (225.18 Mbps) and BSNL (198.54 Mbps).

Who is ahead in market share?

Although BSNL was ahead in performance, Jio and Airtel still dominate in terms of number of customers. According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data for February 2026, Jio has 31.36% and Airtel has 21.34% market share. Whereas BSNL’s share is 15.45%.
