There is a possibility of Mansoor Amjad taking over the responsibility in his place.
Shane McDermott resigns from the post of fielding coach.
New Delhi. On one hand, Babar Azam has again been given the command of Pakistan Test team, while on the other hand, foreign fielding coach Shane McDermott surprised everyone by suddenly resigning. The special thing is that this decision, which came just before the important tour of West Indies and England, is raising many questions. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet given the reason for his resignation. Recently, the Pakistan Board took a big decision to hand over the command of the Test team to Babar Azam in place of Shan Masood, for which there was a lot of criticism.
Shane McDermott left the team
Pakistan team is going to leave for West Indies tour on Monday, where it has to play two test matches. After this the team will play a three-Test series against England. Even before these two important tours, fielding coach Shane McDermott left his post. According to reports, he will not accompany the team on any tour.
Who will handle the responsibility?
According to media reports, fielding coach of Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 team Mansoor Amjad can be given the responsibility in place of Shane McDermott. Mansoor has been working with Pakistan’s junior teams for some time and the board is preparing to promote him to the senior team.
Had become fielding coach only a year ago
Shane McDermott took over as the fielding coach of Pakistan team in place of Mohammad Masroor in 2025. His first assignment was the T20 series against Bangladesh in July 2025. Before joining Pakistan, he was the assistant fielding coach of Bangladesh team for three years. Apart from this, he also worked in the same role with the Sri Lankan cricket team for three years.
Resignation of foreign coaches continues
Sudden resignation of foreign coaches and support staff is not a new thing in Pakistan cricket. In the last few years, many big names have left the team mid-tenure. The team’s former head coach Gary Kirsten had resigned. Jason Gillespie also left his post. Trainer and physio Cliff Deacon also separated from the team. Earlier in 2019, Steve Rickson had also resigned after differences with the board. Now Shane McDermott’s name has also been added to this list.
PCB did not give the reason
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet given any official reason for McDermott’s resignation. In such a situation, this decision is giving rise to many speculations. On the other hand, the change in the captaincy of the team and the continuous reshuffle in the support staff have once again raised questions on the functioning of Pakistan cricket.
West Indies and England tour will be a big test
Pakistan now faces two consecutive challenging foreign Test series. At such times, changes in support staff can affect the team’s preparations. Now everyone’s eyes will be on how the Pakistan team performs in these two tours with the new fielding coach and what clarification the PCB gives officially on this latest resignation.
