Australia’s prestigious Victoria University has received official approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to open its campus in India. This campus will be opened in Gurugram of Delhi-NCR. After this approval the university will be able to start its educational programs in India. This announcement is being considered an important step towards education cooperation between India and Australia.
Approval received during PM Modi’s visit
The information about this approval came to light when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Australia tour. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also welcomed this decision during the India-Australia annual summit held in Melbourne. On this occasion, India’s High Commissioner to Australia Nagesh Singh handed over the approval letter to the officials of Victoria University.
Which courses will be studied?
Many popular and employment related courses will be started for students in this campus located in Gurugram. These will include graduate and post graduate programs like Business, Data Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Global MBA and Master of Applied Information Technology. Students completing these courses will get an Australian recognized degree.
The university gave this information
The university says that efforts will be made to provide the same educational experience to the students studying here, which is available in the campuses of Australia. For this, the university will conduct studies under its special block model. In this model, students will focus on only one subject at a time. Emphasis will be laid on improving students’ understanding and performance through small batches, regular assessment and practical learning arrangements.
What will be the benefit to the students?
The university has also said that students studying in India will be able to get semester exchange, transfer and higher education opportunities in the Melbourne campus in future. Apart from this, scholarship up to Rs 3 lakh will also be given to the deserving students every year on the basis of merit. Professor Karen Dodd, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the India Branch of Victoria University, said that after getting the approval, the university is now ready to welcome its first batch. He says that the aim of the institute is to provide such an environment to the students, where they can make a better career with new technology, industry needs and necessary skills related to work.
At the same time, Chief Operating Officer – (COO) of Victoria University India, Abhishek Sharma said that preparations for the campus were being done for the last several months. Facilities like modern classrooms, student support services, industry linkages and career guidance will be provided here, so that students can get the experience of an Australian university in India. About 52 thousand students from all over the world study in Victoria University, which has a history of about 110 years. With the opening of the campus in India, education, research and academic cooperation between the two countries is expected to get a new strength. This step also furthers the goal of the National Education Policy 2020, under which emphasis is being laid on providing international level higher education in India.
