Fakhar Zaman challenges two-match ban
New Delhi: The chaos has been going on since the first match of Pakistan Super League 2026. Be it poor broadcasting system or foreign players leaving the league. In this season of PSL, some controversy is happening in every match. Now in this controversy, a new scandal of Fakhar Zaman has come to light. Actually, in the league, Lahore Qalandars' opening batsman Fakhar Zaman has been banned for two matches in the ball tampering case, but now Fakhar Zaman has challenged the ban imposed on him.
Fakhar Zaman was accused of ball tampering during the match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. According to Pakistan's Geo News, Zaman has filed an appeal against this suspension with the PSL Technical Committee.
How Fakhar Zaman was caught
Before the last over of the match against Karachi Kings, the ball passed through the hands of Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and finally was given to bowler Haris Rauf. The on-field umpire observed the incident and immediately asked for the ball from Rauf, after investigation it was found that the condition of the ball had changed and a replacement was sought. Apart from this, Kings were also given a penalty of five runs.
Before the penalty, Karachi Kings needed 14 runs from six balls which came down to 9 runs. In the last over, Abbas Afridi of Karachi Kings hit a four and a six and helped the team win by four wickets. Later, the match officials, including on-field umpires Faisal Khan Afridi, Shahid Saikat, TV umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rashid, laid charges against Zaman. After the hearing, match referee Roshan Mahanama concluded that Zaman had tampered with the ball.
Evidence found against Fakhar Zaman
35-year-old Fakhar Zaman was found guilty of violating Article 41.3 of the PSL Code of Conduct and was banned for a maximum of two matches. “Match referee Roshan Mahanama conducted a disciplinary hearing and after reviewing all the evidence, granted Fakhar a personal hearing. Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameem Rana and team manager Farooq Anwar were also present at the hearing,” the PCB said in a statement.
