New Delhi. On Thursday, during the India vs England 2nd ODI, a report in ‘Indian Express’ revealed that Rohit Sharma is ready to retire after the Lord’s match. Since then this issue has become the center of every discussion in India. While some people believe that the time of this legendary player is over, some believe that now is the right time for him to step aside. The experienced coach has expressed his desire that Rohit Sharma plays the 2027 World Cup. Even amid talks of retirement, Lad believes that Rohit can still give a lot to the Indian team and he wants to see him in the next World Cup. My only dream is to see Rohit playing the 2027 World Cup. I want him to be there, Lad Ne said in the conversation.
Rohit Sharma should play 2027 World Cup
This year has been especially challenging for 39-year-old Rohit, he has scored only 241 runs in 8 matches, the average has been 30 and he has only one half-century to his name. He flopped against New Zealand, then could not do anything special against Afghanistan and the ongoing series against England was also not good for him. Dinesh Lad further said that there are ups and downs in every player’s career. Form is temporary and I still want him to play the 2027 World Cup.
Selectors are indicating retirement
It was also claimed in a report that the selectors were pushing Rohit towards retirement. Responding to this, Lad said, “If Rohit retires, it will be the end of an era. He is a great cricketer. One spell of bad form does not define a player’s entire career. I do not want to comment on the decisions of the selectors, but I sincerely want him to play the next World Cup.
It is also being said that the selectors now want to give a chance to Yashasvi Jaiswal and other young players. A BCCI source told ‘Indian Express’, the selectors have made it clear to Rohit that he is not a part of their plans after the England tour and the team wants to move forward after this series. However, Rohit himself wanted to continue playing, especially after working on his fitness. Now the selectors have left the decision in Rohit’s hands as to what he decides about his future.
