‘Alcaraz’s drop shot is like my short-arm jab’… Shubman Gill wants to include Federer and Sachin in ‘Dream Dinner’

London. India’s Test and ODI team captain Shubman Gill says that he sees a glimpse of his batting in the game of tennis star Carlos Alcaraz. He compared the Spanish player’s ‘drop shot’ with his special ‘short-arm’ shot. Gill came to watch the men’s singles semi-final match of Wimbledon. He praised the great tennis player Roger Federer. He revealed the names of those sports legends whom he would like to invite to his ‘dream dinner’.

Alcaraz’s drop shot is considered one of the most effective strategic weapons in modern tennis, while Gil often plays ‘short-arm’ shots on short-pitched balls. Shubman Gill told ‘Geostar’, ‘Alcaraz’s drop shot reminds me of the ‘short-arm jab’ of cricket. I also play this shot and it is my special shot. It is deceptive and extremely effective.

He named Serena Williams, Federer, cricket great Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards as his ‘dream dinner’ guests. He said, ‘Serena Williams, Roger Federer and then among cricketers Sir Vivian Richards and Sachin sir, these are the four greats with whom I would like to sit and have dinner.’

Gill said, ‘I think it would be great to have a conversation with him. All of them have dominated the game in their respective times and can share a lot about their journey. That would be a ‘dream dinner’ for me. The Indian captain supported Yannick Sinner to win the Wimbledon title this time.

He said, ‘I am supporting Sinner to win Wimbledon. He is a fantastic player and conducts himself well on and off the court. Describing Federer as his favorite tennis player, Gill said, ‘Roger Federer is my favorite player. In my childhood, people used to say that he does everything very easily. But when you play a game yourself, then you understand how much hard work goes behind making something look so easy.’

He said, ‘Even in cricket, people have said about me that I play easily, but I know how much hard work goes behind it. The beauty and dignity with which Federer played was very special and that is why I am a fan of his game. When Gil was asked which player he would like to pair with in a tennis doubles match, he took the name of Carlos Alcaraz.

Gill said, ‘He seems like a player who enjoys the game a lot on the court. It will be fun to play with him. I don’t know much about the intricacies of tennis, but I think I can contribute, so this match will be very interesting.
