What Is Air New Zealand Skynest: A big change is about to come regarding long distance flights. Air New Zealand has announced its economy Skynest, which could completely change the experience of long air travel in the future. According to the airline’s press release, it is a bunk bed style sleeping system specially designed for economy and premium economy class passengers, especially for flights that are 16 to 18 hours or more long.

When will booking start?

The airline has said that Skynest bookings will start from May 18, 2026 and this facility will be available on their new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights from November 2026. This is the first concept of its kind in the world, which has been prepared after many years of research and testing.

What will be the convenience?

There will be a total of six sleeping pods in the aircraft under Skynest. These will be like small bunk beds, where passengers will be able to lie down completely and rest, which is usually not possible in economy seats. The length of each pod will be about 6.6 feet (about 203 cm) and width will be about 64 cm, so that one can get comfortable sleep even in limited space. Passengers will be given fresh bedding, which will include pillow, sheet and blanket. Apart from this, a small amenity kit will also be available, which will contain eye mask, socks and skincare products. Facilities like curtains for privacy, reading light, ventilation, USB charging port, seat belt and earplugs will also be provided in each pod.

How much will the ticket cost?

However, this facility will not be included in the base price of the ticket. To use it, passengers will have to pay additional fees. According to the information, a passenger can book for four hours for around Rs 28,000. Each passenger will be allowed to book only one session and two sessions will be available in one flight, meaning a total of 12 passengers will be able to avail this facility.

This facility will be started first on those routes which are counted among the longest flights in the world, like the route from Auckland to New York, which is about 17–18 hours. According to the airline’s CEO Nikhil Ravishank, this initiative has been taken to provide better comfort to the passengers in long flights, making the journey more comfortable and convenient.
