On whose advice did Vaibhav Suryavanshi debut?

New Delhi. Just a few days after his debut in the T20 series against England, a big claim has come to light regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The names of Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar have appeared in a report. 15 year old Vaibhav created history by becoming the youngest player to play T20 International for India. He was given a chance in the second T20 against England and played two more matches after that.

However, not everyone liked the decision to include him in the playing eleven in place of Sanju Samson. Now a report has claimed that Team India was forced to field Vaibhav and Gautam Gambhir had no role in this decision. The question is that if the Chief Selector and Head Coach were not in favor of Vaibhav’s debut, then who put pressure on the team management?

Who pressurized Vaibhav Suryavanshi to feed him?

According to the report, there was ‘indirect pressure’ on the team management to play Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the series against England. The report said that the 15-year-old was not planned to play in the first six matches, even though he was selected in the squad for the Ireland and England series. According to the report, the selectors had already decided that Sanju Samson would be given a chance in the first six matches. Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar also agreed that Vaibhav will get a chance only if Sanju Samson fails to perform in the first six matches. The report said, despite poor performance in the two matches against Ireland and the first T20 against England, it was decided that Sanju Samson would play in the second T20 but due to indirect pressure, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was given a chance.

Bad form opened the door

During this period, Sanju Samson played innings of 5, 0 and 1 run, after which he was dropped from the playing eleven. The team management had decided to give T20 World Cup 2026 ‘Player of the Tournament’ Samson a chance in the initial matches, while Vaibhav was asked to wait. But Vaibhav got a chance in the second T20 and he scored 14, 13 and 15 runs in the next three matches. However, in the fifth T20, he was dropped and Sanju Samson was again included in the team. The report also claims that sources close to the selectors believe that when Vaibhav was played three consecutive matches, he should have got a chance in the fifth T20 against England as well.
