Claude Mythos 5 Access: The Trump government has relaxed some of the restrictions imposed on Anthropic’s powerful AI model Mythos 5. The US government says that Anthropic can give access to it to some trusted American companies. This means that the company will not be able to roll it out for the public right now and like before, its access will remain locked for most of the world including India. Trump administration had banned access
A few weeks ago, the Trump government ordered Anthropic to block access to its advanced AI models Mythos 5 and Fable 5. National security concerns were cited behind this order, but it is believed that through this order, the Trump administration wants to tighten its control over those AI models, which can be misused by governments of other countries or cyber criminals.
Who will get access now?
Anthropic said it has received approval to restore access to Mythos 5 for companies that protect and operate critical infrastructure. Now the rollout for these companies is being accelerated. Besides, the company is also working with the government to make Mythos 5 and Fable 5 available for general use. According to reports, after the order of the US government, more than 100 companies will get access to this most powerful cyber security model of Anthropic. These also include those companies which were involved in Anthropic’s Project Glasswing program.
Why was the ban imposed?
American officials had expressed concern that powerful AI models could be used by military and intelligence agencies of countries like China and Russia. Apart from this, many cyber experts had also warned that if these models fall into wrong hands then cyber attacks can be carried out through them. However, questions were also raised on this decision of the US government. Experts say that no one knows on what basis the US government gave access to the companies and on what basis the rest were left out. This is like giving too much power into the hands of the government. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also criticized it and said that safety testing is not a bad thing, but it is not right to choose the government’s customer.
