The first and foremost reason is overloading the cooker. Many people fill the entire cooker with food in a hurry, but doing so is very dangerous. In fact, some space should always be left empty in the cooker, so that steam can easily form and there is space for it to escape. When anything is cooked in a cooker, the contents inside it swell and form foam. This foam sometimes closes the safety valve and passage of the cooker, due to which the steam formed inside is not able to come out and the pressure increases to dangerous levels.

The second major reason is the damage to the rubber seat of the cooker i.e. the gasket. This rubber ring works to create a tight seal between the lid of the cooker and the vessel, due to which the steam inside does not come out and the pressure is created properly. Many times people think that just by purchasing a new cooker, their responsibility is over, but with time this rubber becomes old, hard or cracked, and when it is unable to form a proper seal, steam starts coming out incorrectly or the pressure inside becomes too high. Therefore, this rubber ring should be checked every few months, and if any crack or wear is seen in it, it should be replaced immediately.
