NEET UG Cutoff 2026: The country’s biggest medical entrance exam NEET UG 2026 was held at a record level this time on May 3, in which lakhs of students took part. This time, out of about 22.80 lakh registered candidates, more than 22 lakh students took the NEET UG 2026 exam. That means more than 96 percent attendance was recorded. With the participation of such a large number of students, the competition has increased more than before. Talking about the level of the exam, students described it as easy and scoring. There is curiosity among students and parents to know how many marks will be required for admission in government medical colleges this time. According to the answers received based on the opinion of experts, this year the cut off may be higher than previous years. How was the NEET 2026 paper this time?
Most of the students who appeared for the exam this time described the paper as easy and of medium level. Biology section was considered high scoring as most of the questions are NCERT based. However, due to questions like multiple statements and match the column, the paper remained a bit long. Whereas Physics was considered to be the toughest, where there were more calculation related questions and there was difficulty in time management. The level of Chemistry was between easy to medium. Experts say that the paper was balanced and it was easy to solve for students who prepared well.
Expert told the estimated cut off
Looking at the level of examination and the number of students, there are indications that the cut off will increase this time. According to experts, to get an MBBS seat in a government medical college for general category, around 620 to 650 marks may be required. Some experts put it between 620 to 635, which is considered a safe score. Whereas the cut off for OBC category is estimated to be around 590 to 630 marks. It is estimated to be between 400 to 520 marks for SC category and 420 to 500 marks for ST. Talking about the qualifying cut off, it is likely to be between 50 percentile i.e. 686 to 144 marks for General and EWS categories. For OBC, SC and ST categories, it can be between 40 percentile i.e. approximately 143 to 113 marks.

Why may the cut off increase?
The main reasons for the increase in cut off this year include the relatively easy nature of the paper and the participation of a large number of students. With the participation of more than 22 lakh students, the competition has become bigger than before. Apart from this, the overall scoring of the students is also expected to increase due to better preparation and coaching support.
Counseling and further process
Eligibility to participate in All India Quota Counseling will be decided on the basis of NEET UG score, which is organized by the Medical Counseling Committee. Apart from this, states also have different counseling processes, through this one can get admission in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and other medical courses. This time, technology was also used extensively to make the examination completely fair. Live monitoring was done at many sensitive centers and every activity was monitored through CCTV. Along with this, social media was also monitored and many channels selling fake papers were closed.
