- Save electricity at home by unplugging unused devices.
What is 1-Watt Rule: Along with technology, advanced devices have now reached people’s homes. Earlier, normal electronic items were present in homes. But now smart electronic devices are present in most of the houses which make the work of people at home easier to a great extent. But many times it has been seen that even after the device is switched off, it continues to consume electricity. This is called standby power consumption. To reduce this problem, the One-Watt Rule was implemented across the world. Let us know what these rules are.
What is the one-vote rule and how did it start?
According to media reports, a global initiative was started in 1998 to prevent wastage of electricity. However, later it was known as One-Wot Initiative. Let us tell you that the purpose of this rule was that by 2010, all electronic devices used in the house should consume a maximum of 1 watt of electricity in standby mode. Later the rules were made more stringent and a limit of up to 0.5 watts was set for the devices. This initiative received international support and many countries included it in their own rules.
What is standby power?
Let us tell you that when you switch off the TV, computer, microwave or any other electronic device in your house after using it, but even after the system is switched off, some features of the device remain running in the background.
For this reason, the devices continue to consume some electricity even after appearing switched off. Even USB chargers and smart plugs can use up power when left plugged in.
What does this rule mean for users?
Users get the direct benefit of the one-watt rule. Due to this, companies have to make such devices which consume much less electricity after being switched off. Nowadays, advanced TVs, home theater systems, computers and other electronic devices have become much less power efficient than before. That is why the users sitting at home get the direct benefit of this rule.
How to save electricity at home
If you also want to save electricity even after using smart devices in your home, then it is important to keep some important things in mind.
Unplug the machines which are not to be used for a long time. Apart from this, keep TV, gaming console and extra charger unplugged at night. Not only this, nowadays before buying new devices, check them carefully to see how much electricity they consume. It is better to buy only devices with low power consumption.
