New Delhi. KL Rahul, who is challenging everyone in the Orange Cap race, has admitted that every time things do not go his way, especially when it comes to his T20 International career, but the India and Delhi Capitals batsman is happy that he has broken the mindset of considering himself only a Test specialist. Last month, 34-year-old Rahul scored unbeaten 152 off 64 balls against Punjab Kings in the IPL, although the team lost, but this record innings showed his growth in the shorter format.
KL Rahul has not played any T20 match for India since 2022, but he has been playing continuously in Tests and ODIs. In Jiostar’s show ‘Superstars’, Rahul said that he is proud of the progress he has made in the last ten years. He said, “Ten years ago, I would have done anything to be a part of the T20 team. I was never seen as a T20 or good white ball player. I was considered a Test player only.
I play T-20 with the tag of Test.
Rahul said, “So it is a matter of pride for me to get out of that thinking, to improve my white ball cricket and to reach here. In this journey, I too made mistakes and could have done some things better.” He further added, “But I am proud of the fact that every time I played, I tried my best and prepared myself to have the best chance to win. That’s the game; things don’t go your way every time.” Rahul said that he has tried to keep himself balanced beyond the results. “You have to take it easy and enjoy the journey… Whenever I feel like I haven’t achieved anything, I remind myself what I have achieved, and that gives me perspective. I still have some time. So I will keep trying my best and see how many trophies I can win.”
Daughter changed her mind
‘I have changed after becoming a father’ Rahul welcomed a daughter with his actor wife Athiya Shetty last year. He said that this new role has also helped him in cricket. Rahul said, “Becoming a father has been the most beautiful thing for me. I always thought that there is peace and happiness in my life, but I was wrong. Real happiness, peace or tranquility is known when you hold your daughter in your lap.” He said, “When I see her smile, when she hugs or kisses me, I forget everything, all my injuries, pain and worries. This has also helped my cricket in the last one year. Now I don’t think too much about the game, which has made playing fun again. When I am on the field, I am completely focused and just enjoy the game and try to give my best.”
