Gujarat defeated Punjab by 4 wickets
New Delhi: Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, were defeated by Gujarat Titans by 4 wickets in the 46th match of IPL 2026. Punjab’s batting was nothing special in the match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Somehow the team scored 163 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. However, Punjab Kings tried their best to defend their score and took the match till the last over, but Marcus Stoinis could not defend the team’s 11 runs in the last 6 balls.
This last over of the innings also proved to be the turning point for Gujarat Titans. Actually, the entire Punjab team along with Marcus Stoinis was trying to stop Gujarat before 163 runs. There was some success, but due to poor fielding and some mistakes, the match slipped out of Punjab’s hands. For Gujarat, Arshad Khan and Washington Sundar finished the match with 1 ball remaining. Gujarat needed 4 runs on the last 2 balls, but Sundar ended the breath-taking match by hitting a six on the 5th ball.
Gujarat took strong steps towards playoffs
With the victory in the match against Punjab Kings, Gujarat further strengthened its claim for the playoffs. Gujarat Titans have now reached 5th position in the points table with 6 wins in 10 matches. With this, the race for the final four with the top teams has also become exciting. On the other hand, Punjab is not affected by this defeat. The team remains at first place with 13 points in 9 matches.
Jason Holder became man of the match
Jason Holder was chosen Player of the Match for his strong performance in the match against Punjab Kings. Holder took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. It was because of this lethal bowling of Holder that Punjab Kings could not score a big score. Apart from Holder, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammad Siraj also took 2-2 wickets in the match.
