Telegram Ban in India: Recently, amid the discussions about alleged cheating racket and paper leaks related to NEET exam, the name of Telegram also came into the headlines. Many reports claimed that some Telegram channels and groups were being used to share confidential information related to the examination. After this, the Government of India has banned Telegram today.
Although it is not easy to completely block any app in any country, but if necessary, governments can block access to big platforms by using legal and technical means.
After all, how is an app banned?
When any app is accused of illegal activity, national security, fraud or violation of rules on a large scale, then the concerned government agencies start investigation. If the allegations are found serious then Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and mobile network companies can be ordered to block the services of that app.
After this it becomes difficult or impossible for users to access the app’s server. In many cases, that app can also be removed from the App Store and Play Store so that new users cannot download it.
