CSK can take RCB player, know what is the rule of taking player on loan in IPL

The process of injuries to players continues in IPL 2026. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings is also in big trouble. The team’s opening batsman Ayush Mhatre is out of the entire season due to injury. Mhatre’s injury is a big blow for CSK because Mhatre had scored 201 runs in 6 matches. Meanwhile, discussion has started that Chennai team should take a player from RCB on loan.

Actually this advice is from former cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin. He had said that the loan window in IPL 2026 is ending on the 7th match, before that it would be good if Chennai takes wicketkeeper batsman Abhigyan Kundu on loan from RCB. But what is this loan process and can a player in cricket move from one team to another on loan or not? Understand here what is the complete rule.

What are the rules for taking loan in IPL?

Actually, this loan system was started in 2018 only for uncapped players. Players who did not get a chance for the entire season could go and play for another team in the middle of the season. In 2019, this rule was also applied to capped players.

A player who comes on loan can go to another team only for one season. As per Ashwin’s advice, if Abhigyan Kundu goes from RCB to Chennai Super Kings, then he will remain a part of Chennai only till the last match of IPL 2026 and will again join the Bengaluru team in IPL 2027.

Conditions related to loan system

This loan system can be implemented only when its conditions are completely followed. First of all, the agreement should be agreed between the three parties, i.e. the team buying the player in the auction, the team taking the player on loan and the player himself.

Another condition is the real team of the player. Meaning, Abhigyan Kundu should have experience of only 2 or less matches for RCB, only then he can go to CSK.

If we take the example of Abhigyan Kundu, then when there is a match between Bengaluru and Chennai in IPL 2026, Abhigyan will not be able to play in it.
