Chris Gayle’s inning of 175 runs in 2013

New Delhi: Indian Premier League was started in the year 2008. The first match of the league was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. In the very first match of the tournament, Brendon McCullum, playing for KKR, played a historic inning of 158 runs. No one had expected this kind of batting in the T20 format which is just 3 years old. In such a situation, it is obvious that at that time McCullum had become the batsman who played the biggest innings in IPL and T20 cricket, but his record did not last long.

McCullum’s record of playing the biggest innings in IPL was broken in the year 2013. A player from the same RCB team against which McCullum had made this record, wrote a new history in the IPL. In fact, on April 23, 2013, RCB legend Chris Gayle created a storm with his stormy batting in the match against Pune Warriors. In this match, Gayle completed his century in just 30 balls and played an innings of 175 runs, which still remains as the biggest innings played by any batsman in IPL. In that innings, Gayle had hit 17 sixes and 13 fours in 66 balls.

RCB had scored 263 runs in the match

In that match against Pune Warriors, RCB had scored a huge score of 263 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Apart from Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 33 runs and AB de Villiers scored 31 runs for RCB. Mitchell Marsh proved to be the most expensive bowler for Pune in bowling. Mitchell Marsh had taken one wicket by conceding 56 runs in his three overs. Apart from this, Ashok Dinda had spent 48 runs in four overs and Ali Mortaza had spent 45 runs in 2 overs.

In response to RCB’s 263 runs, Pune Warriors could score only 133 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. In this way, RCB won the match by a huge margin of 130 runs. In batting, Steve Smith played the highest innings of 41 runs in 31 balls for Pune. Apart from Smith, Mitchell Marsh also scored 24 runs, while Aaron Finch contributed 18 runs, Yuvraj Singh contributed 16 runs and Mithun Manhas contributed 11 runs. In bowling, Ravi Rampal, Jaydev Unadkat and Chris Gayle took 2-2 wickets for RCB. Apart from this, Murali Karthik, RP Singh and Vinay Kumar took 1 wicket each.
