How do these fake calls work?
Nowadays, cyber thugs call from such numbers which look absolutely real, like bank or government helplines. The user thinks that the call is trustworthy but in reality it is a scam. Most people in India have faced such calls at one time or the other.
What is the new Verified Caller feature?
According to reports, Alphabet’s company Google is preparing a new Verified Caller system which will be rolled out through Google Play Services. Its advantage will be that this feature will not be limited to any one calling app but will work in the entire system.
What is different from the previous feature?
Till now, a feature called Verified Calls was available in Android, but it was limited only to Google’s Phone app. After the new update, this security will be available in the phones of all companies whether it is Vivo, Oppo, Samsung, Realme or OnePlus.
What are DNO numbers and why are they important?
The special focus of this new feature will be on DNO (Do-Not-Originate) numbers. These are such numbers which are created only for receiving calls like banks or government institutions. You should never receive calls from them. But scammers misuse these numbers and cheat users. The new system can identify such numbers and give alerts in advance.
How will this feature save?
Whenever a suspicious call comes in, your phone will match it against the pre-existing database. If the number is found to be fake or suspicious, you may receive a warning even before the call is picked up. Even the bank app installed in your phone can provide necessary information to this system.
