Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi 2026: Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi of Vaishakh is on 5th April 2026. This is called Badi Chaturthi of the year. One must read the fast story during Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi, only then one can get the full results of the fast.
Story of Vaishakh Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi
Shri Krishna said – ‘O King Yudhishthir! I am describing the one who observed the fast on the Vikat Chaturthi of Vaishakh, the welfare giver, and whatever results he got.
In ancient times, there was a very famous and mighty king named Rantidev. Just as fire destroys groups of grass, in the same way they destroyed their enemies. Rantidev was friends with gods like Yama, Kuber, Indra etc. An excellent Brahmin named Dharamketu lived in his kingdom.
He had two wives whose names were Sushila and Chanchala. Sushila used to do various kinds of fasting etc. daily, as a result of which her body had become weak. On the other hand, Chanchala never observed any kind of fast and used to eat food to her heart’s content.
In time, a girl with beautiful features was born from Sushila’s womb and a son was born from Chanchala’s womb. After having a son, Chanchala started taunting Sushila in various ways and said teasingly to her – ‘Hey Sushila! You have weakened your body by doing so many fasts etc. but you have been blessed with an emaciated daughter.
On one hand, looking at me, I never fasted and remained healthy by eating well, due to which I have given birth to a healthy son. Sushila got hurt after hearing these harsh words coming from her daughter-in-law’s mouth. She started worshiping Lord Ganesha with full rituals. As a result of Sushila’s devotional fast on Ganesh Chaturthi, the destroyer of troubles, Lord Ganesha appeared before her.
Lord Shri Ganesha said – ‘O daughter! You have worshiped me with full faith and devotion, as a result of which I am very happy with you. I know your wish. Therefore, a son who is a scholar will be born from your womb. After giving this boon, Lord Ganesha disappeared from there.
As a result of the grace of Lord Ganesha, precious gems like pearl, coral etc. started falling from the mouth of Sushila’s daughter. After some time Sushila also got a son Ratna. Dharmaketu died shortly after the birth of his son. After the death of Dharmaketu, Chanchala took all his wealth and started living elsewhere.
But due to the birth of precious gems like coral, pearl etc. from the girl’s mouth, Sushila accumulated a lot of wealth in a short period of time. Due to Sushila being rich, her daughter-in-law Chanchala became jealous of her.
One day Sushila’s daughter was fetching water from the well when Chanchala pushed her into the well. But Lord Ganesha protected the girl and she safely came near her mother. Seeing that girl alive, Chanchala had a change of heart and she started thinking, ‘Who can kill a creature which is protected by God himself?’
Sushila was also very happy to see her daughter safe and hugged her and said – ‘By the grace of Lord Ganesha, you have got life again. My grandfather is the father of orphans. He always protects his devotees.
Impressed by the glory of Lord Ganapati, Chanchala repented and came before Sushila and bowed at her feet and said – ‘O Sushila! My sister! I am extremely sinful and wicked. Please forgive the crimes I have committed. How can a human being harm someone whom God himself protects? Those who find fault in the righteous and virtuous people get destroyed due to the consequences of their actions.
After that Chanchala also observed the virtuous fast of Lord Ganesha. By the grace of Lord Ganesha, mutual affection and harmony between them started increasing continuously. By the grace of Shri Ganpati ji even enemies become friends. Due to the influence of the fast observed by Sushila, her daughter-in-law Chanchala had a change of heart.”
Lord Ganesha further says – “O Mother! I have told you the entire story of the past. There is no other fast in the world that can destroy all obstacles better than this.”
