The Indian innings was started by captain Shubman Gill and experienced Rohit Sharma. Both of them played cautiously and tried to give a steady start to the team. The turning point of the match came in the 32nd over when Joffra Archer showed the way to the pavilion by getting set batsman Virat Kohli caught out by Adil Rashid. As soon as Kohli was out, there was panic in the Indian dressing room. What happened next, no Indian fan had imagined.
In the very next over, Washington Sundar scored just 2 runs and was caught by wicketkeeper Butler on the ball of Saqib Mahmood. Akshar Patel also could not stay at the crease for long and became the second victim of Joffra Archer after scoring 1 run in 5 balls. On the very next ball of the same over, all-rounder Shivam Dubey was caught by Archer without opening the account (0). Within no time, India’s score went from 178/3 to 193/7.
In the lower order, Gurnoor Brar struggled a bit by scoring 7 runs in 15 balls, but Saqib Mahmood also sent him to the pavilion. Shreyas Iyer, standing at one end, also got caught by Jos Buttler on the ball of Gus Atkinson in the 44th over. On the last ball of this over, Prasidh Krishna was bowled on zero and the Indian innings ended at 233 runs.
