England’s legendary batsman Andy Sandham registered his name in the record books by scoring a triple century with a borrowed bat in his last Test match in 1930. Actually, during that series, Sandam had sold the extra bats he had and kept only one main bat with him. Unfortunately, that only bat broke in the last Test match of the series. After this, Sandham was forced to ask to borrow the bat from his captain Freddy Kelthorpe. Sandam scored a triple century in that match against West Indies with the same borrowed bat. At the age of 40, Sandam played a marathon inning of 325 runs by hitting 40 brilliant fours with that bat, which was his first triple century in Test history.
In the second innings of the same historic Test match played in Kingston, Sandam used the same borrowed bat and played a brilliant half-century of 50 runs. However, this world record of Sandam was broken just a few months later by Australian legend Sir Don Bradman by playing an inning of 334 runs against England. Sandham played a total of 14 Test matches for England from 1921 to 1930, in which he scored 879 runs with the help of two centuries, but that triple century from the captain’s bat will be recorded in the record books forever.
The name of Indian team’s ‘Gabbar’ i.e. Shikhar Dhawan is also included in this interesting list. When Shikhar Dhawan made his debut in Test cricket, he played a very aggressive and brilliant inning of 187 runs with the bat of his partner Murali Vijay. In this test match played against Australia in Mohali, there was a huge and historic partnership of 289 runs for the first wicket between Dhawan and Murali Vijay, in which Murali Vijay also scored 153 runs.
In the debut match, Dhawan liked Murali Vijay’s bat so much that he kept it with him. After this, in the ICC Champions Trophy of 2013, Dhawan came on the field with this bat and created chaos in the entire tournament. With this bat, he scored two consecutive brilliant centuries in the tournament and became the highest run-scorer (top scorer) in the Champions Trophy. Afridi made a world record by scoring the fastest century in ODI International in just 37 balls against Sri Lanka in 1996. Interestingly, the bat with which Afridi tested the Sri Lankan bowlers actually belonged to the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had given that bat to Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis for practice. That bat from Waqar reached Shahid Afridi who was debuting in that match and Afridi created history. Similarly, former Indian great Mohinder Amarnath also scored runs with the bat of Sandeep Patil in the year 1982-83. He scored 584 runs in the series against Pakistan and 598 runs on the West Indies tour with the same bat, and later became player of the match in the semi-finals and final of the 1983 World Cup.
