With a view to make the documents related to government procurement easily accessible to the common people, Sarthak Siddhant, a class 12 student of JVM Shyamali School, Ranchi, has taken a unique initiative. He has created an online database by collecting about 1.66 crore government procurement records from the Central Public Procurement (CPP) portal of the Government of India, from where any citizen, journalist or researcher can access these records in a few clicks.
Sarthak says that government records are for the public, but in the current system it is very difficult to find and download them. Keeping this problem in mind, he prepared his portal, so that people do not have to go through the complicated process to get the necessary information. He believes that when access to information becomes easier, only then transparency will be strengthened.
He said that in the last two weeks, about 1.66 crore purchase records were collected from the CPP portal. After this all the records are systematically kept in a public database. Now anyone can download these documents and independently analyze decisions related to government procurement.
Will save a lot of time
The biggest feature of this portal is its simplicity. While it takes a lot of time to search and download records on the government portal, this task has become much easier on Sarthak’s platform. This will greatly help researchers, media organizations and common citizens to understand the government procurement process.
This is not the first time that Sarthak has come into discussion on a big issue. Earlier, he had studied the documents related to CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and digital evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. After seeing the scanned copy of his answer sheet, he realized the difference in marks, after which he tried to understand the entire evaluation process. This initiative of his also created a lot of discussion in the education world.

Focus will be on this
Now the focus of his new initiative is to make the government procurement process more transparent. He says that when records related to government expenditure will be easily available, more people will be able to study them. This will not only promote research but will also strengthen public monitoring.
Will do this work further
Sarthak said that there are plans to further improve this project in the coming times. For this, he will work with a team of engineers, so that new features can be added to the portal and more and more records can be made available to the people.
