Microsoft Copilot AI: Tech giant Microsoft has made a major change regarding its AI tool Copilot. The company has now clearly said that Copilot should be used only for entertainment purposes and users will have to take responsibility themselves while using it. That means if AI makes any mistake then the company will not be responsible for it.
What is Copilot and why is it special?
Copilot has been specially designed to make the work easier and faster. It is used in Microsoft 365 apps like Excel and PowerPoint and helps in increasing the productivity of users. The company had earlier promoted it more for enterprise users but now it has been extended to common users also. Recently it was revealed that Microsoft has more than 70 products related to the name Copilot.
What is the reason for the change?
The biggest reason behind this new rule is believed to be the limitations of AI. Tools like Copilot are based on Large Language Models which can sometimes provide wrong or imaginary information. This problem is called hallucination. AI models like GPT or Claude can also sometimes make mistakes. Although it has improved with time, this problem has not been completely eliminated. In such a situation, Microsoft has made this change to limit its responsibility.
Can’t use Copilot for work anymore?
It is not at all that Copilot has become useless for work now. Microsoft still wants people to use it in their work, but as a tool and not as a final decision-making system. The company advises that instead of directly accepting the information received from Copilot, check it once, especially when the matter is related to some important work or decision.
Legal Risk Avoidance Strategy
Through the new terms, Microsoft wants to protect itself from possible legal cases. This change has been made with the idea that if AI gives wrong information and it causes harm to someone, then the company should not be directly accused.
Interestingly, despite these changes, Microsoft is continuing to advance Copilot. According to reports, the company has achieved big targets regarding its sales in recent months. However, according to statistics, by the end of 2025, only about 3% of users were paying for Copilot. Despite this, the company is working on new AI tools like Copilot Cowork which focuses on making work easier through AI.
