Recently he told that after becoming a parent, his thinking regarding the relationship between technology and children is not the same as before. Whereas earlier he did not see much problem in children using gadgets early, now his perspective has changed a lot.
The real world is more important than the screen
Now he believes that it is more important for small children to play outside instead of spending time in front of an iPad or screen. He says that if children play in mud, run around and understand things on their own, then it is more beneficial for their development. His idea reflects that experiences in childhood should not only be from digital but also from the real world.
Even playing without a plan teaches a lot
According to Altman, children playing without any set rules or screens helps in the development of both their brain and body. When children make games by themselves, touch things and try new things, their curiosity increases. Besides, their understanding ability, coordination and social skills also improve. Such experiences cannot be obtained from any app or video because there is no guide or notification in these, rather the child learns on his own.
Not against technology, but balance is necessary
Sam Altman is not against technology but he emphasizes on its proper use. He believes that technology should be a tool for children and not completely dominate their lives. Especially at an early age, children should first get a chance to understand the real world and only then it is better to include technology. This perspective of Altman shows that even though we are living in the digital age, balance is most important for children.
