New Delhi. Team India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 have already started. Meanwhile, great Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has given such a suggestion to BCCI, which can bring a big change in Indian cricket. Gavaskar believes that if Team India has to be successful in the World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, then Indian batsmen will have to get used to playing on big boundaries from now on. For this reason, he has demanded BCCI to increase the size of the boundary in domestic cricket.
Sunil Gavaskar’s suggestion to BCCI
In his column in Sportstar, Sunil Gavaskar said that with the start of the new domestic season, the boundaries of Indian grounds should be increased. He believes that this will give the batsmen an opportunity to prepare better for situations like the 2027 ODI World Cup. Gavaskar wrote, ‘It is very important to increase the size of the boundary as soon as the new Indian season starts, so that our batsmen can get used to it before next year’s World Cup.’ He also said, ‘There is enough space behind LED advertising boards on almost all grounds, so implementing this change will not be difficult.’
‘Not just strength, smart cricket is also needed’
Gavaskar believes that success in ODI cricket is not achieved only by hitting big shots. Batsmen should know how to play according to the circumstances of the match. He said, ‘The batsmen have to understand against which bowlers they should not take risks and against which bowlers they can score runs freely.’ According to him, no team in the world has five world-class bowlers, hence there are definitely opportunities to score runs in every match.
Also gave important advice on shot selection
Sunil Gavaskar also gave important advice to the batsmen regarding shot selection. He said that batsmen should not try to play big shots on every ball under the pressure of their image. He said, ‘Shot selection is very important. The batsman should control his ego and play every ball as per its quality.
Big difference explained between T20 and ODI
Gavaskar also explained the difference between T20 and ODI cricket. He said that in T20, aggressive batting is required from the beginning, but in ODI cricket, the batsmen have time to first understand the pitch and conditions, and then play big shots. He believes that if Indian batsmen start preparing for big boundaries and intelligent batting from now on, then Team India’s claim in the 2027 ODI World Cup will become stronger.
