India vs England: In the second match of the three-match ODI series, Team India had to face a crushing defeat against England by 4 wickets. With this, the series between the two teams is now tied at 1-1. In such a situation, the last ODI match to be played at Lord’s has become decisive. Team India’s batting in the match was very disappointing.
Team India captain Shubman Gill
New Delhi: The star-studded Indian cricket team failed miserably against England in the second ODI match. In the match played at Sophia Ground in Cardiff, Team India had to face a shameful defeat by 4 wickets. Batting first, the Indian team was able to score only 233 runs in the match, in which England won the match by scoring 235 runs in 44.1 overs with the help of Joe Root’s unbeaten inning of 99 runs.
Captain Shubman Gill looked quite disappointed with this disappointing performance of Team India. After the match, he said, “It is quite disappointing. After 25 overs, we thought that 300 or 310 would be a good score. We were also in a strong position. But, we lost wickets rapidly in the middle overs, due to which we had to suffer.”
Lower order batsmen disappointed – Gill
Team India captain Shubman Gill looked most disappointed with the lower order batsmen. Speaking about the match, he said, “Our tail-enders are not that great. But I think we expected a little more from our lower-middle order and we didn’t take advantage of the starts we got. But hopefully the next time we’re in a situation like this, we’ll try to build some small partnerships and take the game from there.”
Strategy had to be changed because of Washington-Gil
Team India suffered a big blow in the second ODI against England when Washington Sundar got injured while batting. Due to this he could not bowl. On Washington’s injury, captain Gill said, “He is an important part of our team. I think he got injured while batting while taking runs towards mid-off and maybe it had an impact, which increased the pressure. We had to bowl to our main bowlers throughout the innings, but I don’t think it would have made a big difference because the fast bowlers were getting help. But when you lose an important player like this, you have to change your strategies.”
Gill praised England’s Joe Root
Indian captain Shubman Gill praised the legendary Joe Root, who played the match-winning innings for England. He said, “Joe Root is a great player. We always knew that the score was 240. If we had 300 runs, where the run rate was around 5.5 or 6, then we knew that perhaps we could get him to make some wrong shots, but at the pace of 4.5 to 5 runs per over, it is difficult to make him make any mistakes. He is a master of chasing such scores. We just could not get him to make any wrong shots.”
