Gurnoor suffered a shock before the Cardiff match, ICC found him guilty of Level-1, the fast bowler had clashed with Ben Duckett in Edgbaston.

New Delhi. A bad news for the Indian team before the second ODI match to be held in Cardiff is like a shock for the team. Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has come under the target of the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to his aggressive behavior during the first ODI played against England at Edgbaston.

The ICC confirmed on Wednesday that Brar had violated Level 1 of the Code of Conduct. Due to this, he has been given an official warning and one demerit point has also been added, however, no penalty has been imposed on him. A Level 1 offense is considered to be committed when a player throws the ball in an inappropriate or dangerous manner towards another player during a match.

The field got heated, ICC took action

This incident happened in the eighth over of England’s innings, when Ben Duckett had adopted an aggressive stance on the young fast bowler. After Jasprit Bumrah’s economical bowling in the initial spell, England’s openers targeted Brar. Duckett had already hit a four and a six in the same over. After this, when Duckett defended a ball, Brar picked up the ball and threw it rapidly in his direction towards the stumps. Although the ball did not hit Duckett, this incident increased the tension on the field. Duckett responded with a smile, but the confrontation certainly added spice to the contest. According to the ICC, Brar admitted his mistake and accepted the punishment proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. This allegation was made by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns as well as third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren.

What do ICC rules say?

Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct covers cases where a player throws the ball in an unfair or dangerous manner towards another player. Level 1 offenses can range from an official warning to a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee and one or two demerit points. This is the first offense for Brar in the last 24 months, so he has been given only a warning and one demerit point for now.

The interesting thing is that in the end it was Brar who won this match. After the initial pressure, he made a comeback in the 13th over and dismissed Ben Duckett (43). Captain Shubhman Gill changed the bowling end and Brar sent both Jacob Bethel and Duckett to the pavilion in the same over. Jasprit Bumrah took a brilliant catch near the boundary line and Brar celebrated loudly after being out.
