There is no rule for any Indian citizen to directly join the US Special Forces or Army from India. To join the US Army, it is not enough to just reach America, first of all that citizen will have to acquire the status of a legal permanent resident in America i.e. Green Card. Only after this he can apply for recruitment in the US Army. Selection in Special Force is also done after general recruitment on the basis of prescribed procedure and eligibility. According to the current rules, people who are living in America on student visa, work visa, tourist visa or any other permanent visa cannot apply for recruitment in the army.

Earlier, a program named Military Accessions Vital to the Nation’s Interest was run in America. Under this, non-American citizens with some special skills like medical services, knowledge of selected foreign languages ​​could get a chance to join the army even without a green card. However, this program is currently closed and new applications are not being accepted.

Can one get citizenship quickly by serving in the army?

Under US law, green card holders who have served honorably in the military may receive some special exemptions for citizenship compared to the general application. Under Sections 328 and 329 of the US Immigration and Nationality Act, eligible military personnel can apply for early citizenship if they meet certain conditions. Permanent residents who have rendered at least 1 year of honorable service during peacetime may be eligible to apply for citizenship. At the same time, some soldiers serving during the special military circumstances declared by the US may also get relief from normal residence related conditions, although merely joining the army is not a guarantee of citizenship.
