JMI University Exam Update: Jamia Millia Islamia University has made major changes in the rules related to its examinations, which is going to provide a lot of relief to the final year students. It is often seen that due to only one backlog paper of a student, his entire degree gets put on hold for several months. To overcome this problem, the university has changed its examination rules.
This decision has been approved by the Executive Council of the University by amending Ordinance-15. Under the new rule, students who are studying in the final semester or final year under the annual system and have backlog papers of any previous semester or year, will now be able to appear for the compartment examination directly after their final semester or final annual examination.
This means that they will not have to wait for the next full regular exam cycle, allowing them to complete their degree on time. However, the university has also made it clear that this new rule will be applicable only to the students studying in regular courses. Students who are doing any course through distance education will not get the benefit of this change. The schedule of compartment examinations will be issued separately by the office of the Controller of Examinations.
The rules for re-evaluation were also amended.
Another important change has been made in the examination rules, which is related to re-evaluation of answer sheets. According to the amendment in Clause 24.4 of Ordinance-15, compartment examinations will not normally be conducted in courses which follow the carry-over system. But a special relaxation has been given for the students of final year or final semester, so that they can clear their backlog through paper compartment examination only.
Along with this, Clause 23.1 has also been amended, under which now final year students can choose to appear in the compartment examination directly instead of applying for re-evaluation of their answer sheet. Whereas for the students studying in the second year, the old system will continue, that is, they can apply for re-evaluation within 15 days of the result, as mentioned in the PTI report.

How will students get the benefit?
This decision of the university is being considered as a great relief for the students, because it will not delay their studies and further plans. Earlier, students who had backlog of papers had to wait till the next regular examination, due to which their degree, further studies or even job opportunities were left behind. But now with the direct option of compartment exam, students will be able to clear their backlog in less time and complete graduation on time. This entire decision has been approved by the Executive Council of the University and it has been formally included in Ordinance-15.
