New Delhi. Punjab Kings’ star cricketer Shashank Singh has been in the news for the last few days. The cook of his house in Bhopal had lodged an FIR in the local police station on June 30, 2026, accusing Shashank, his father Shailesh Singh and the driver of assault, abusing and taking him hostage. Shashank Singh has termed this entire controversy as a conspiracy to tarnish his public image and extort money. Shashank Singh told that the cook is a habitual criminal. Criminal cases have already been registered against him.
Speaking to IANS, he said, ‘He was a habitual criminal. 9 FIRs had already been registered against him. Cases were being registered against him since 2018. A case of attempt to murder was also registered against him under section 307. All this was shocking to me. We were also surprised because when he left our house, he was fine. What happened outside? What led to the scuffle? We don’t know this.
that cook is a criminal
Shashank further said, ‘He had filed a case against us so that he could take money by threatening us, but by the grace of God nothing like this happened. I was getting calls from unknown numbers. A caller asked me for Rs 5 lakh. The caller had said that if I give this amount, the case will be withdrawn. The second caller asked for Rs 7.5 lakh to withdraw the case and asked to get the case removed. At that time we did not know that he (the cook) was a professional criminal. Gradually we came to know that many cases were already registered against him. He came with the intention of tarnishing my reputation.”
What was written in the social media post?
Shashank has also written a long post on social media calling him a professional criminal and has appealed to the people to check the background of any person before hiring him for domestic work. He wrote, “This incident changed me forever and taught me lessons that I will carry with me throughout my life. I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this because it was the first time my family and I experienced something like this, and I hope other people will learn from it.”
The right-handed batsman wrote, “As an athlete, I have faced abuse, trolling and abuse for years. I have learned to live with it. But this was different. Overnight, I was made to look like I had beaten someone less privileged than me. Thousands of people abused me without knowing the truth.” They wrote, “When we later saw him in the video, we were shocked because he had walked right by our house. It took us time to understand how someone could get beaten so badly. He had come to our house on his own volition, but we sent him back on the third day when we found him roaming around the house, taking photos inside the house, and sending them to his friends.”
‘We later found out that…’
Shashank wrote, “Police records revealed that there were already 9 FIRs registered against him and charge sheets against him in 8 cases, which included attempt to murder, house theft (which we later found out he had committed at our house too), assault, housebreaking, extortion by causing hurt, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, offenses under SC/ST Act and other offences. To hide his identity, he was using three different Was using names.”
‘The trap was woven for monetary gain’
Shashank told that this entire incident was a trap to put pressure on him for financial gain. The Punjab Kings batsman wrote, “As more things came to light, I became convinced that he never entered our home with good intentions. I believe the plan was to put pressure on me by filing a false FIR, hoping that I would pay money to save my public identity. In my view, the FIR was used as a tool of extortion rather than a genuine complaint.
