New Delhi. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer is very disappointed after the 0-4 defeat in the 5-match T20 series against England. Indian bowling was also a flop in the fifth and final T20 match. After the defeat, Iyer enumerated the shortcomings made by Team India. Jos Buttler, showing a glimpse of his old aggressive style, scored a brilliant century, while captain Harry Brook, batting like a future star, played a stormy innings as England defeated India by 56 runs in the final match, completing a historic 4-0 clean sweep in the five-match series.
After the defeat, Shreyas Iyer said, ‘We have learned a lot from this match. Especially regarding awareness of conditions and matches. I believe that the whole game is about how you adapt to the circumstances, because the conditions are constantly changing right from the first match. Fielding plays the most important role in winning the match. When you come on foreign tours, the dimensions of the field are completely different, for which you have to be prepared.
Shreyas Iyer said that his team dropped many catches in fielding and lost wickets at regular intervals in batting.
Thanks to Jos Buttler’s 131 runs in 64 balls and Brook’s unbeaten 95 runs in 45 balls, England scored a huge score of 257 runs for three wickets. The Indian bowling attack looked completely ineffective in this match. Butler and Brook made a record partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket, which became one of the biggest partnerships for any wicket in T20 International cricket.
Shreyas Iyer said, ‘The pitch was excellent for batting. We probably could have tricked the opposing team a bit, but we dropped some catches. Had those catches been taken, perhaps we would have been chasing the target of 220-225 runs, but unfortunately we did not get that chance. We lost our wickets continuously, which pushed us on the backfoot. The execution of his bowling was amazing. Anyway, he has played a lot of cricket on this ground. Jos Buttler played an excellent innings in batting and after that Harry Brook also gave excellent support. The catches we dropped completely changed the rhythm of the match.
With this victory, England also ended India’s 1601-day long dominance of the top position in the T20 International rankings. This was India’s sixth defeat in seven matches under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer (one match was abandoned due to rain). The Indian Cricket Board had already indicated to review the disappointing performance before this match.
