Education Report Card: Not a single district of the country is on top in grading of schools, complete report from Delhi to Haryana

The Ministry of Education has released a new report on school education of all the states and districts of the country. In this report, it is told that in which state and district, what is the condition of the schools and how well are the children’s education?

What is in this report card?

According to the information, this is the report card of school education of states and districts. Just like children get marks in exams, similarly states and districts are also given marks and grades on the basis of their work.

Which points were focused on?

In this report, it was not only seen how many schools there are, but it was also seen whether the children are studying and learning properly or not? Are there enough teachers in schools or not? Are basic facilities like electricity, water, toilet available or not? Are children getting the benefits of government schemes or not and to what extent is digital technology being used in studies?

Evaluation was done on these 6 standards

According to the report, the districts have been evaluated on 6 major parameters. These include Learning Outcomes, Quality of Teaching in the Classroom (Effective Classroom Interactions), Infrastructure & Student Entitlements, School Safety & Child Protection, Digital Learning and Governance Process.

How were grades given?

In the report, states and districts have been given different grades based on their total marks.

  • Flourishing: 91 to 100 percent
  • Best-1: 81 to 90 percent
  • Uttam-2: 71 to 80 percent
  • Best-3: 61 to 70 percent
  • Attempt-1: 51 to 60 percent
  • Attempt-2: 41 to 50 percent
  • Exercise 3: 31 to 40 percent
  • Aspirant-1: 21 to 30 percent
  • Akanshi-2: 11 to 20 percent
  • Akanshi-3: up to 10 percent

What does the national picture tell?

According to the released data, no district in the country could reach the highest ‘Utkarsh’ (91-100%) or ‘Uttam-1’ (81-90%) grade in 2024-25. Most of the districts were in ‘Pracheshta-1’ (51-60%) and ‘Pracheshtha-2’ (41-50%) categories. In comparison, the number of districts in ‘aspirational’ categories was much less. This indicates that the number of very poor performing districts has decreased, but the number of districts reaching the top level is still not there. At the national level, compared to 2023-24, the number of districts in ‘Pracheshta-1’ and ‘Uttam-3’ category has increased, while the number of districts in ‘Pracheshta-2’ and ‘Pracheshta-3’ has decreased. This means that many districts have gradually moved towards better grades.

Delhi’s demonstration

Talking about 13 districts of Delhi, in 2024-25, 9 districts remained in ‘Uttam-3’ (61-70%), 4 districts in ‘Uttam-2’ (71-80%) and 3 districts in ‘Pracheshta-1’ (51-60%) category. No district of Delhi could achieve ‘Utkarsh’ or ‘Uttam-1’ grade, but not a single district is in the ‘Akanshi’ category. It is clear from this that all the districts of Delhi remain in the relatively better performing category.

Ranking of districts based on different categories has also been given in the report. For example, in the digital learning category, South district stood first with 39 points, while New Delhi and South West BI stood next with 36 points each. Whereas, North West A got 33 numbers in this category.

The report has also made comparisons at the district level within the states. For example, both the districts of Goa are in the ‘Pracheshta’ category, while most of the districts of Haryana also appear in ‘Pracheshta-2’ and ‘Pracheshta-3’ grades. It is clear from this that there is still scope for improvement in education in almost all the states.

The government says that the purpose of this report is to identify the shortcomings of the states and districts and to encourage them to provide better education, so that the quality of education in schools across the country can improve. This report is not only to give the ranking, but also to understand which areas need improvement the most.
