If your child is currently studying in class 5 and you want to enroll him in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, then there is good news for you. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has started online applications for admission to class 6 under JNVST 2027. Interested parents and students can apply by visiting the official website.

The last date for application has been fixed as 31 July 2026. After this no application will be accepted. Whereas, the entrance examination will be held on 28 November 2026. The entire admission process is likely to be completed by August 2027.

Who can apply?

Only those students who are studying in class 5 in a recognized school in the session 2026-27 can apply for this entrance examination. Along with this, the student should also have studied classes 3, 4 and 5 from a recognized school.

The candidate should be a permanent resident of the same district where he wants to take admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. If a student is studying in a school in a neighboring district, he will be able to apply only if his school is within the prescribed limit of 10 kilometers from his home. Applications made for the wrong district will be canceled later, even if the student is selected.

The applying student should be born between 1 May 2015 to 31 July 2017. Students who have already passed Class 5 or are studying Class 5 again will not be eligible for this examination. Moreover, JNVST exam can be given only once.

How will seats be reserved?

At least 75 percent seats in Navodaya Vidyalayas will be reserved for students from rural areas. On the remaining seats, students from both rural and urban areas will be selected on the basis of merit. Apart from this, SC, ST and OBC categories will get reservation as per government rules. At the same time, at least one-third seats will be reserved for girl students. Disabled students will also get the benefit of reservation as per rules.

How will the exam be?

The entrance exam will be offline on OMR sheet. In this, 80 MCQ questions will be asked, which will be of total 100 marks. Questions will be asked from Mental Ability, Environmental Studies (EVS), Arithmetic and Language. You will get 1.25 marks for every correct answer and the most reassuring thing is that there will be no negative marking for wrong answers. Duration of the exam will be 2 hours. For selection, students will have to secure minimum marks in mental ability and EVS and also minimum marks in other subjects.
