After continuous heavy rains in Mumbai and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange alert for Monday, July 6, 2026, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a big decision. Keeping in mind the safety of students, holiday has been declared on Monday in all government, private and municipal schools and colleges of Mumbai.
BMC clarified
BMC has clarified that this decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in view of bad weather and possible heavy rains, so that students and parents do not face any kind of problem. Although schools and colleges will remain closed, government and private offices will remain open as per their scheduled timings and work will continue as normal.

Take the weather department’s warning seriously
BMC administration has appealed to the citizens to take the warning of the Meteorological Department seriously. Leave the house only when absolutely necessary and follow all the guidelines issued by the administration in view of heavy rains, waterlogging and strong winds. The administration is keeping an eye on the constantly changing weather and if necessary, further necessary steps can be taken.
Decision taken in Palghar also
After the Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain in some areas of Palghar district on July 6, the district administration has taken a major decision as a precautionary measure. District Magistrate Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar has declared a holiday on Monday, July 6 in all the primary and secondary schools of the district.
The administration has said that in areas where rain conditions will be normal or have less impact, the head teachers will be able to assess the local conditions and take appropriate decisions at their level. If needed, online classes can also be conducted. The district administration has appealed to the citizens to remain alert in view of the weather and not to leave their homes unnecessarily.
