All eyes were on 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi
In this match, all eyes were on 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his debut in international cricket and broke 37-year-old Sachin Tendulkar’s record of playing for India at the youngest age. However, his first innings did not last long. He scored 14 runs in 10 balls with the help of two sixes, but while trying to play forward on the ball of off-spinner Will Jacques, he was stumped by Jos Buttler. Suryavanshi had to struggle with extra bounce in the beginning, but he scored six runs with a brilliant whip-scoop on the fast ball of Jofra Archer. After this, he also hit an attractive six over long-on off the ball of Josh Tong. However, England captain Harry Brook put Will Jacks on the bowling in time and Suryavanshi was bowled by his slow, wind-swaying off-break.
Ishan Kishan scored 49 runs
Abhishek Sharma scored 43 runs in 24 balls, captain Shreyas Iyer scored 37 runs in 22 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 49 runs in 43 balls, but all three batsmen did not look completely comfortable. During this period, Kishan struggled the most to score runs quickly. England’s bowlers made excellent use of the conditions. Jofra Archer’s pace and extra bounce troubled the Indian batsmen in the early overs, while Sam Curran maintained the pressure in the middle overs with frequent changes of pace and slower balls.
Sam Curran took 3 wickets
Sam Curran took three wickets for 33 runs in four overs. Will Jacques took one wicket for 22 runs in three overs, while left-arm spinner Liam Dawson took one wicket for 27 runs in three overs. Experienced leg spinner Adil Rashid gave 21 runs in two overs. Abhishek Sharma was seen struggling a lot in the beginning and missed almost 10 times in his first 12 balls. However, he later gained momentum against low-pace bowlers and hit brilliant strokes. He played Karan’s full toss into the hands of Tom Banton standing at midwicket. Iyer and Kishan managed the innings by making a partnership of 65 runs for the third wicket. Iyer used his feet well, but due to the big boundary of the Old Trafford ground, it was not easy to hit fours and sixes. England’s bowlers maintained constant pressure in the middle overs, due to which Indian batsmen could not score runs freely.
