Social Media Safety Features: In today’s modern times, social media is becoming a part of people’s lives. From children to adults, today most people are active on social media. But some time ago, keeping in mind the safety of children, many countries had taken strict action on social media platforms. In this, instructions were given to the platform to add new features for the safety of children.

But now a shocking revelation has been made in a report in which it has been told that more than half of the features available for children on social media are not working.

How was the test done?

For your information, let us tell you that this test has been done in three stages. In this, the research team created dummy accounts of children and adults of different ages and then tested it in three types of situations. First it has been checked how normally the child is using the platform. After this, in the second stage it has been checked how children can easily bypass the safety features. At the same time, in the third stage it has been checked how a senior person can easily access the accounts of the youth. Now in such a situation, if any safety feature was not working properly on the platform, then it was considered failed.

These institutions investigated

According to media reports, this study has been done by researchers from New York University and Northeastern University. It has been published by Heat Initiative and Cybersafety Research Center. According to the information, during the research, a total of 86 child safety features present on four big social media platforms were examined.

Researchers say that at least 50 percent of the safety features that are promoted to keep children away from inappropriate content or from contact with strangers have failed to give correct results.

Companies expressed objection

Now after the arrival of this report, there is panic among the companies. Snap, Meta and YouTube have not accepted the results of this study as correct and have expressed their disagreement. Meta says that due to Instagram’s Teen Accounts feature, youth are being shown less inappropriate content than before. Apart from this, the company has also claimed that the features have been used incorrectly in the report and no much evidence has been given for the same.
