New Delhi. Gary Wilson has been appointed as the new head coach of the Ireland men’s cricket team. Wilson is the first local coach to guide the senior men’s cricket team since John Wills in the early 1990s. Wilson has been given this responsibility after Henrik Malan left the post. Henrique Malan stepped down just a day after the historic 2-0 clean sweep of the T20 series against India to ensure a smooth transition to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification cycle for 2027.

40-year-old Wilson retired in 2020, after playing 292 matches for Ireland in his illustrious 15-year international career. Immediately after retirement, he got into coaching. Initially, he took charge of the domestic team North West Warriors and then joined the senior national setup in 2022 as the assistant coach under Malan.
