How A Low Fat Vegan Diet Improves Health: For a long time, scientists have believed that our diet directly affects our health. But now new research is showing that what we eat affects not only the body but also the environment. A recent clinical study has revealed that low-fat pure vegetarian food can not only improve health, but can also play a big role in reducing pollution.
What came out in the research
This study has been published in the journal BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health. This research was led by Dr. Hana Kahleova and her team. The special thing is that this study was not based only on estimates or computer models, but it looked in detail at the eating habits of real people and their effects on their bodies.
This is how the comparison happened
In the research, two types of food were compared. The first was a low-fat, pure vegetarian diet, which did not include animal-based items like meat, milk and eggs. The second was the Mediterranean diet, which included fish, olive oil, vegetables and limited amounts of meat and dairy products. Both types of food are considered good for health.
what was the result
62 overweight adults were included in this study. All participants followed one type of diet for 16 weeks and then another type of diet for the next 16 weeks. This helped the researchers to better compare the effects of both diets. The results of the research were quite shocking. The pollution associated with the food of those who adopted pure vegetarian diet reduced by about 57 percent. Whereas in Mediterranean food this reduction was about 20 percent. That is, the impact of pure vegetarian food on the environment was found to be very less.

What was the effect on health?
It also showed positive results in terms of health. People consuming pure vegetarian food lost weight rapidly, blood sugar control improved and cholesterol levels also improved. All these things are considered to be related to reducing the risk of diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Researchers say that the production of animal-based foods takes more resources and produces more pollution. In such a situation, adopting a plant-based diet can be beneficial for both the body and the environment.
