Cricket selection with the help of AI in MPCA

Indore: Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) is preparing to implement a first-of-its-kind model of cricket administration with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in processes ranging from financial management to player selection. A top MPCA official gave this information on Friday. He said that under this model, AI will give suggestions to the selectors based on the performance of the players, which will increase the transparency of selection decisions.

MPCA President Mahanaryaman Scindia told reporters in Indore that the aim of this model is to make the decision process of the cricket organization more transparent, accountable and data based. Scindia said:

We want to eliminate any possible bias in the selection process of players. AI will recommend the selection of players in the team based on their performance, while the final decision will be taken by the selectors.

According to the MPCA President, the AI equipped system will give suggestions to the selectors by analyzing the runs, wickets and other performance related data of the players. He said that if a player is selected or non-selected on the basis of statistics other than statistics, the selectors will have to record the reasons for the same, which will increase accountability of the entire process.

MPCA President said that the use of AI will not be limited to the selection process of players. Scindia said that the application process for grants given to district and divisional cricket units, scrutiny of documents, monitoring of expenditure and financial management will also be done through this technology.

He said that currently the AI system has been tested in the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) of T20 cricket and there are plans to make it available to the district and divisional units before the next cricket season starting from September.

Scindia claimed that MPCA could be the first cricket organization in the world to adopt AI-based system at this level in sports administration. For this project, MPCA has joined hands with AI start-up ‘Emergent’. Mukund, CEO of ‘Emergent’, said that for the last six months, his start-up has been working to bring various processes of MPCA administration on a unified digital platform.

He said, ‘The objective of our partnership is to ‘digitize’ the entire process of sports administration, this will increase transparency. We want to take this AI system to the global level.
