Many experts have warned about this, but a recent report by Bank of America suggests understanding this fear from a slightly different perspective.
What does the report say?
According to the bank’s research, AI is definitely going to change the job market in the coming time, but it does not mean that jobs will disappear completely. The data of the last 85 years shows that every time new technology is introduced, the way of working has changed but employment has not ended. Rather, new job roles have arisen with time.
Jobs changing over time
The report states that many of the jobs that exist today never existed before; about 60% of the jobs did not exist in the 1940s. Roles like data scientist, social media manager and cloud developer have emerged only in the last 20 years. Apart from this, whereas earlier a large population was dependent on farming, now this number has reduced considerably. This means that technology brings change but also creates new opportunities.
How much danger is there from AI?
The report also suggests that around 84 crore jobs worldwide could come under the influence of AI. There are about 33% jobs where AI can have a greater impact. In about 13% of the tasks, AI will work as an assistant to humans. There are only about 2.3% jobs where AI can completely take place, meaning the threat is not going to be completely eliminated but is also not as big as is often said.
AI can be not an enemy but also a friend
It would not be right to see AI only as a job-taking technology. In many cases it makes human work easier and faster. As the use of AI increases, the need for people to learn new skills will also increase. Opportunities will also increase for those who update themselves with time. Instead of being afraid of AI, it is more important to understand it. This technology is certainly changing the job market, but history shows that with every change new opportunities also arise.
