Rohit-Virat are ready to play in this big tournament, but selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir have not yet told whether there will be a place for these white ball legends in the team or not. When asked if the BCCI has had any internal discussions on this, Saikia said that all concerned are on the same page and it is an ongoing process.
Board Secretary gave a vague answer on Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli
New Delhi. BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia said in an interview that the discussion on India’s 2027 World Cup roadmap was ‘not meant to be made public’, and declined to comment on the team’s players or their future. The names of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli always remain in the news when it comes to the Indian team’s 2027 campaign, but Saikia clearly said that ‘strategic discussions in the boardroom’ should remain within.
Both the former captains are ready to play in this big tournament, but selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir have not yet told whether there will be a place for these white ball veterans in the team or not. When asked whether the BCCI has had any internal discussions on this, Saikia said that all concerned are on the same page and it is an ongoing process.
No discussion on selection of Virat-Rohit
Devjit Saikya said, ‘We have a good team and a lot of experts. All concerned people are included. ‘Whatever decisions are taken, the cricket committee, selectors and everyone else is involved, like the support staff, head coach and the players concerned.’ ‘There are regular conversations. Therefore we do not need any special meeting. This is an ongoing process. Saikia said that he would not divulge boardroom information. ‘I don’t think I should tell anything to the media or the public because these are strategic discussions. I am not authorized to speak about this in front of the media.
Will there be a series with Bangladesh or not?
BCCI will follow the government’s instructions on Bangladesh. The Indian cricket team had postponed the white ball tour of Bangladesh last year due to unrest in the neighboring country. Now there is an elected government in India’s eastern neighbour. The new chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board is former captain Tamim Iqbal, who is keen to restart bilateral cricket ties with India. When asked whether BCCI’s stance would change now, Saikia replied: ‘BCCI is a cricket controlling board, and we have nothing to do with the politics going on in other countries.
Nothing to do with the internal situation of Bangladesh
As BCCI, we follow the policy of the Government of India, whether participating in bilateral or multinational sporting events. Whatever rules and policies the central government makes, we follow them, like other sports associations do, be it football, athletics or any other sport. Saikia clearly said that it does not matter to BCCI which party is running the government in Bangladesh. ‘We do not care who is running the government in any country, whether it is a democratic, undemocratic or dictatorial government. This is not our job. Our job is to run cricket. Whenever a tour is scheduled for bilateral matches in a foreign country, we will proceed as per our plan and schedule.
