UPSC EWS Quota: Till now, the problems of NTA were not showing any signs of decreasing that now questions are being raised on UPSC. However, these questions are not about paper leak but about EWS quota. Major revelations have been made in the investigation regarding the financial condition of many selected candidates.
According to a report in The Indian Express, out of the 104 candidates selected through Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in the Civil Services Examination 2025 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, a large number of them were students who had studied in expensive coaching institutes. Also, those who got education in private schools or whose families are associated with business.
What does the report say?
Many shocking things have come to light in the report. Out of the candidates selected from EWS quota, 67 candidates have studied in good coaching institutes. Where the fees go up to lakhs of rupees. Investigation revealed that 46 candidates had studied in private schools. Where expensive education takes place. Apart from this, 28 candidates come from such families whose families are from business families. At the same time, there are about 10 candidates who had already worked in the corporate sector.
At the same time, if we talk about their education, many candidates have studied from top institutions of the country. According to the report, about 14 candidates studied graduation or post graduation from institutes like IIT, NIT, JNU Delhi University. At the same time, the report has revealed that some candidates fit in the EWS quota.

What is EWS?
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota was introduced in the year 2019 through the 103rd Constitutional Amendment. Under this system, economically weaker people of the general category are given the benefit of 10 percent reservation in educational institutions and government jobs.
EWS reservation is for those candidates who are not included in the reserved categories like SC, ST or OBC but are economically weaker. At present, if the annual income of a family is less than Rs 8 lakh and it fulfills the property related criteria set by the government, then it can avail the benefit of this reservation by making an EWS certificate.
