Three Pondicherry cricketers who beat the coach on the field were suspended till the court’s decision.
New Delhi. Pondicherry Cricket Association has suspended its three first class cricketers with immediate effect. They are accused of attacking U-19 state team coach Venkataraman on December 8 last year, the state association gave this information on Wednesday.
These three players – J Karthikeyan, A Aravindraj and S Santosh Kumaran – have represented Puducherry in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in recent years. In fact, Arvindraj had also played for Union Territory in the last domestic season.

CAP’s press release said that all three have been accused of attempt to murder and attack on Venkataraman. The SHO of Sedurapet police station has filed a charge sheet under FIR 100/2025 and the case is pending in the Judicial Magistrate-IV Court, Puducherry. There was a stir in Pondicherry cricket when the head coach of the Under-19 team, S. Venkatraman was attacked by three local players. This entire matter is related to the team selection of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). It is alleged that the players were not included in the team, due to which they attacked the coach in anger. After this incident, the coach suffered serious injuries on his head and shoulders and was admitted to the hospital. The attack took place on Monday morning in the indoor nets of CAP (Cricket Association of Pondicherry). Coach Venkataraman was watching the practice session when three local players Karthikeyan Jayasundaram, A. Arvindraj and S. Santosh Kumaran reached there and allegedly started misbehaving with her. During this time the dispute escalated so much that the players hit the coach with a bat. According to the police, Venkatraman had 20 stitches on his forehead and a fracture in his shoulder.
